Nexus-7 Task Force — A Project Board That Actually Helps You Plan
I built Nexus-7 because I was tired of project management tools that felt like extra homework. Most boards are just digital sticky notes—they don't help you plan, they don't warn you when someone is overworked, and they go out of date the minute developers start coding. Nexus-7 is built to actually help: it breaks big features into bite-sized tasks with AI, flags bottlenecks before deadlines slip, and syncs directly with GitHub so the board updates itself.
Why I Built This: The Problem with Most Project Boards
Every software engineer and team lead knows the Monday morning routine: opening a blank board and dreading the hours you're about to spend turning a new product request into a dozen individual tickets.
Then the sprint starts, and the usual frustrations creep in:
-
The Hidden Overload Trap
One developer gets buried under 50 hours of work while another is waiting around for tasks, but nobody notices until Friday's deadline is blown.
-
The Stalled Review Black Hole
A task card sits stuck in 'Code Review' for four days simply because nobody realized a pull request was waiting on GitHub.
-
The Status Update Treadmill
Managers have to pull engineers into meetings or ping them on Slack just to ask, 'Hey, did you finish this yet?'
I built Nexus-7 Task Force to handle that administrative grunt work automatically, so developers can focus on writing code and leads can see how the sprint is really going at a glance.
How It Helps Teams Every Day
-
From a Messy Idea to a Clear Plan in Seconds
Have you ever spent an entire morning trying to break a feature like "Add Google Single Sign-On" into small tasks? It's mentally exhausting. In Nexus-7, you just type what you want to achieve. The AI acts like a thoughtful senior developer sitting next to you: it outlines the frontend buttons, backend API routes, database fields, and edge cases, estimating realistic hours for each. You don't have to accept everything blindly—you review the list, tweak what you want, and drop them into your sprint with one click.
-
Spotting Burnout Before It Happens
We've all seen that one go-to developer who says "yes" to everything and suddenly has 60 hours of work on their plate. Nexus-7 keeps a gentle eye on everyone's weekly workload. If someone takes on too much, the app flags it in warm amber and lets the team lead reassign tasks with one click so the whole team shares the load.
-
Catching Delays While There's Still Time to Fix Them
Most tools only show a red warning after you've missed a due date—which doesn't help anyone. Nexus-7 watches the tempo of your board. If an important ticket sits untouched for days, or if a task depends on something that hasn't even been started, it quietly waves a flag. That gives you time to ask 'Hey, do you need a hand with this?' before Friday rolls around.
-
No More Asking 'Did You Remember to Update the Board?'
Developers want to write code, not shuffle cards across columns by hand. When an engineer creates a pull request on GitHub, Nexus-7 notices and moves their card to 'In Review'. When the code gets approved and merged, the card automatically moves to 'Done'. The board stays up to date on its own, and managers don't have to nag on Slack.
-
A Clean Space for Both Solo Builders and Growing Teams
Whether you're a solo developer organizing a weekend project or a team lead running a sprint for a startup, you can set up private workspaces, invite teammates, and keep permissions clean so everyone stays focused on their own board.
How the Pieces Fit Together
I kept the architecture straightforward, fast, and easy to maintain. A snappy React frontend hosted on Vercel, a Node.js/Express backend that handles the business logic, a PostgreSQL database to store everything safely, and a smart AI router that picks the best model for the job:

A Few Decisions I'm Glad I Made
-
Making the Interface Feel Instant with React & Vite
Nobody likes waiting for a web page to reload just to drag a card. Using React 18 and Vite with clean local state means moving cards, filtering by developer, and checking sprint stats happens with zero lag.
-
Relying on PostgreSQL and Prisma for Peace of Mind
Project boards store real team commitments. Pairing PostgreSQL with Prisma ensures every task, deadline, and comment is backed by strict relational integrity. You never have to worry about phantom tasks or lost edits.
-
Using the Right AI Model for the Right Job
Instead of routing every request to a huge, slow model, I set up a smart router. Quick everyday tasks use Gemini Flash for near-instant answers, while intricate architectural breakdowns use DeepSeek's deeper reasoning. It keeps the app snappy and cost-effective.
-
Connecting Directly to GitHub
By listening to GitHub webhooks (authenticated with secure SHA-256 signatures), the board reflects actual code progress. It bridges the gap between what developers are writing and what managers see.
Where It Runs & How It Stays Secure
-
Fast Global Access on Vercel
Deployed on Vercel's global edge network so the app loads quickly whether you're opening it in Lagos, London, or New York.
-
Encrypted Database Connections
Hosted on a managed cloud PostgreSQL instance with SSL encryption (
sslmode=require) to protect data in transit. -
Safe Logins & User Sessions
Passwords are encrypted with bcrypt, and user sessions run on secure 24-hour JSON Web Tokens (JWT).
